Resume Design Tips & Sample
Employers prefer crisp-looking resumes that are clear and concise. By applying the following general guidelines, you’ll improve both the style and the substance your resume.

Looking for more information on how to write a resume? See our Sample Resume and our FAQ: Writing a better resume section.

Layout
Add interest and clarity by using bullets, indents and varying font styles (such as bold and italic letters). Avoid using unconventional fonts, photos or graphics.

Length
The general rule is: one page for early-career (entry level to 5-10 years) and two pages for mid-career candidates. However, your resume should present the full breadth of your experience and you shouldn’t feel contained by this guideline.

Employer Data
Provide the reader with relevant detail about your past and present employers. such as size, specialities and physical location.

Performance Data
Quantify your goals, achievements, and accomplishments with actual numbers.

Job and Education Dates
Make sure the dates are clear and without gaps. If you’re a mid-to late-career candidate, you can save space by lumping early-career jobs together.

Degree & Credentials
Be accurate—and honest. Misrepresenting your degree, certifications or licenses is unethical and if it doesn't prevent you from getting the job up front, it can most certainly cost you the job later on.
